The Gaelic Athletic Association of Greater New York held its 72nd annual banquet on Saturday, February 18th, at the Astoria World Manor in Astoria, New York. This year's guest of honor was Danny Doohan (Falcarragh, Co.Donegal), who is a great supporter of the Irish community. Over 500 people were in attendance to support both the New York GAA and this year's honoree for his dedication and committment to the Association.

The New York GAA held a fundraiser at Gaelic Park on Sunday, March 5th that will be the talk of the town for some time to come. With New York GAA Chairman Seamus Dooley paving the way and committee chairperson Joan Henchy steamrolling the foundation, the evenings proceeds of $62,000 will support the Irish Lobby for Immigration Reform (ILIR). This impressive amount will undoubtedly help the group who are currently lobbying to get the Kennedy/McCain Bill passed in Congress, which will hopefully get legal status for the Irish who are undocumented in this country. With people coming near and far to support this worthy event, there wasn't one who could not call it a massive success.
