Lansdowne Rugby Earns Fourth Victory

ANOTHER W: Lansdowne racked up another W in their latest outing against Union.

Lansdowne recovered from an indifferent opening thirty minutes to register an impressive victory over Union at Tibbetts Brook Park in Yonkers last week. The slow start resulted in the concession of eight points-a penalty and a try-before Lansdowne started to play some coherent football.

A Brian Fingleton try, scored at close range following some good work by Anthony Priest, Owen Myers and Manus O'Sullivan closed the gap to 8-5 at the half-time break.

Lansdowne continued to escalate the intensity in the second half, however, they were initially unable to break the Union defense down in a series of tap penalties close to the line. The first score of the second half came following a kick and chase and a bungled effort on the part of the Union defense to clear the ball. This allowed out-half Jonny Coghlan to touch down under the posts for a converted try.

Lansdowne continued to employ an effective kicking game which was augmented by good line-out play and some strong running by Jason Kelly and Blake Mannion in the centers. The second Lansdowne try of the half came via Jonny Coghlan following a blocked kick on his opposite number. Union were able to pull a penalty back late in the game to narrow Lansdowne's margin of victory to 17-11.

In the second game, The Lansdowne B side struggled to compete with a Union Team composed primarily of A team players. However, the play of the day was an unexpectedly long distance try from prop Tom Knudsen who, in the process, employed a dummy pass that a backline player would be proud of.
