Paddy Barry’s kept up their reputation as the most exciting team in this year’s Irish Emigrant Cup, but unfortunately for Alo McGeough’s lads that’s where the joy ended as they exited the competition at the hands of Kinvara in Dorchester on Monday night.

The Quincy side got in front through Mark Bonville who netted with a fine overhead kick before Paul Fomenky equalized from close range after good work down the left by Doug Charton and Scott Benowicz.

Bonville netted his second to put Paddy’s in command once more but Leo O'Connor restored parity with a shot through a crowded penalty area following a poor clearance

Fomenky then netted the goal of the game, cutting in from the right and curling a left footed shot from the corner of the box into the top corner. The Brighton side were headed for their first ever final but Marty McGeough had other ideas and blasted a shot into the roof of the net following more poor defending.

The game was taken to penalties - Ken Mullane saved the opening two Paddy’s shot while Petey McNamee netted the winner in sudden death to send Michael Graham’s team celebrating all the way to the Cup final.

IrishVillage 5 Banshee 1

On Wednesday evening John Stack’s side ensured that the Cup will be staying in Brighton thanks to a one-sided victory over the Banshee. Kyle Gray opened the scoring for the Irish Village early on and Kevin Rodgers weighed in with two more before Greg Kilkenny and Mike Savastra added to the tally.

Gary Henry gave the Dorchester something to show for their efforts when he hit a well placed penalty into the top corner with ten minutes left.

The Cup final is scheduled for May 22 in Charlestown.
